Municipalities and Monoma work together to host Ukrainian refugees

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, multiple municipalities in the Netherlands and Monoma have been working closely together to provide shelter for Ukrainian refugees. Since 2022, various buildings have been made available for refugee housing, and we manage these buildings on behalf of the municipalities.

Monoma Netherlands now manages refugee accommodations at 32 locations across 8 municipalities, providing shelter for approximately 2,000 Ukrainian refugees. In early 2022, just after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Monoma was approached by the first municipality to handle refugee housing. Drawing on Monoma's extensive experience in providing temporary housing and managing temporarily vacant real estate, Monoma has proven to be an ideal partner in offering immediate housing solutions for this vulnerable group.

Monoma's role in accommodating Ukrainian refugees goes beyond traditional real estate management for these locations. Not only do we ensure a safe and clean environment, but our strength also lies in connecting all involved parties and acting as a central point of contact for the municipalities and residents. We play a supportive role in various activities for the residents, often organized by volunteers from various local businesses. We assist these organizations by, for example, providing spaces and materials they may need. Like we did in one municipality, where we facilitate a monthly film afternoon for the children from various accommodation sites accompanied with popcorn and cotton candy.

Through supporting the organization of various activities for residents and having on-site staff who speak Ukrainian, we aim to make their stay as pleasant as possible.

We cannot make it a 'home,' but we can do our best to ensure that people feel at home.
